At least 88 people have died due to the Ebola outbreak in Congo and neighboring Uganda. The World Health Organization has declared the Ebola outbreak in Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. More than 300 people are suspected to be infected. Although the outbreak has not yet reached the level of a global pandemic like the coronavirus, the risk of international spread is increasing, according to the World Health Organization, as reported by the international news agency AP. The organization has also urged other countries not to close international borders. The organization has confirmed that Ebola infection has been found in a laboratory in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo. Kinshasa is about a thousand kilometers away from the eastern Ituri province, which is considered the center of the outbreak. It is estimated that the infected person traveled from Ituri. The World Health Organization has also reported that suspected patients have been found in the North Kivu province. The local administration has reported that Ebola infection was first confirmed in Goma, a major city in eastern Congo. The World Health Organization's emergency declaration is expected to put pressure on international aid agencies and various countries to provide immediate cooperation and coordination. A team of 35 experts from the World Health Organization's regional office in Africa has arrived in Bunia, the capital of Ituri province. Seven tons of emergency medicine and health supplies have also been sent with the team.
