The 20th edition of the Asian Games, held in the Japanese city of Aichi-Nagoya, has concluded. The event officially ended with a special closing ceremony at the Mizuho Stadium.
During the closing ceremony, the Asian Games flag was handed over to Qatar, the host of the upcoming 21st edition. Qatar is set to host the Asian Games for the first time in 2030. The flag was presented to Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
More than 17,000 athletes from 45 countries competed in various disciplines across 43 sports. China topped the medal table, winning a total of 341 medals—including 169 golds—out of the 469 gold medals contested. Host nation Japan finished second with 269 medals (83 gold), while South Korea took third place with 150 medals (39 gold).
India and Uzbekistan secured the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. While 28 countries won gold medals, 40 nations succeeded in securing at least one medal.
A total of 135 athletes from Nepal—comprising 57 women and 78 men—participated across 21 sports. Nepal successfully won two bronze medals: one in women's kabaddi and another in the men's karate kumite event.
Although the organizers faced some criticism regarding shortcomings during the event, the Olympic Council of Asia congratulated and thanked Japan, acknowledging that the Asian Games concluded successfully overall.
