Climate Conference Begins in Mustang Today

Mustang, Bhadra 30: The ‘Gharpjhong Climate Conference 2083’ kicks off in Mustang today. Gita Chaudhary, the Minister for Agriculture, Forest, and Environment, is inaugurating the event. Representatives from 421 local levels and 36 District Coordination Committees arrived in Mustang on Monday evening to participate. Bhim Kumar Basnet, the Chief Administrative Officer of Gharpjhong Rural Municipality, stated that over 2,000 guests—including elected representatives from metropolitan cities, sub-metropolitan cities, municipalities, and rural municipalities across all seven provinces—had arrived by Monday evening. Accommodation for the guests has been arranged in local hotels. Jamuna Thakali, the Vice-Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, informed that village societies, mothers' groups, youth clubs, and other organizations from all five wards have been mobilized to manage the conference. According to Vice-Chairperson Thakali, teams from the mothers' groups will manage breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the guests at the conference venue itself, while arrangements for dinner and accommodation have been made at hotels designated by the Rural Municipality. To ensure a grand event, roads and settlements across all five wards have been decorated with banners and flags showcasing local art and culture. Streetlights have been installed along the main highway and inner roads, illuminating the area. Health worker volunteers have been mobilized to conduct health check-ups for visiting guests. Preparations have been made to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water, internet, and electricity services. Additionally, arrangements for vehicle parking and traffic management have been streamlined. Bikas Sajyal, the Information Officer of the Rural Municipality, stated that the Jomsom covered hall has been prepared with a stage, sound system, banners, and other necessary decorations for the conference. Inside the venue, a 28-foot-tall spherical balloon depicting a "crying Earth" has been installed to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change. Additionally, Roshan Thakali, the Agriculture Branch Officer, informed that over fifty stalls have been set up to promote Mustang's agricultural products. The two-day conference will conclude with the issuance of a declaration regarding the impacts of climate change. rss
