Germany, November 1 (Kartik 16) — Protests led by Gen-Z youth in Germany are turning violent. Thousands of young people have taken to the streets, demanding increased investment in education, a reduction in the cost of living, and the abolition of mandatory military service.
Demonstrations have taken place in 34 German cities, including Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. Organized by a campaign group called "Gen-Z Regelt," the protests aim to draw the government's attention to rising inflation and the lack of sufficient investment in the education sector. On Saturday night in Frankfurt, protesters looted at least two shops and vandalized several others. According to the international news agency Reuters, police are working to bring the situation under control. Authorities have advised the public to avoid the city center and remain in safe locations.
Throughout this year, Gen-Z-led protests have occurred in various European countries. In Serbia, a student movement has impacted the political landscape, while protests in France have also been marked by incidents of violence and looting.
