Kathmandu, Ashwin 6: Minister for Information and Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina has stated that the literary journalism sector has been making significant contributions to the preservation, promotion, upliftment, and advancement of language, literature, culture, and art.
During a meeting with representatives of the Nepal Literary Journalists Association at the Ministry today, he remarked that literary journalism serves as a crucial medium for preserving a society's language, culture, art, and literature and passing them on to the next generation. Minister Timilsina noted that newspapers published in various languages and mother tongues facilitate a better understanding of the language, culture, and social conditions of the respective communities. He also assured that the state would prioritize journalism originating from remote and rural areas.
The Literary Journalists Association offered several suggestions, including the formulation of separate criteria for literary, cultural, artistic, and mother-tongue publications; the inclusion of online literary journals within the classification framework; and the facilitation of postal services to resolve issues related to the distribution and transport of publications. Furthermore, the Association emphasized the need for collaboration between the state and the relevant sector to foster the development and promotion of literary journalism.
