Minister for Information and Communications Dr. Bikram Timilsina has said that even though the media sector is undergoing transformation with the rapid development of technology, freedom of expression, freedom of the press, citizens' right to information and public interest should be kept at the center of the communication system. He has emphasized the need to further strengthen credibility, factuality, editorial responsibility and democratic values by embracing artificial intelligence (AI), digital platforms and new technologies.
Addressing the 24th conference of the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) organized by the Public Service Broadcasting Organization Nepal and the Community Radio Broadcasters Association in Kathmandu from today, Minister for Communications Dr. Timilsina said that despite changes in communication technology, basic principles such as citizens' right to information, freedom of the press and freedom of expression should not change. He said that freedom is also associated with the responsibility of the media sector, and that the main responsibility of the media is to provide accurate, fair, balanced and accountable information to the citizens. He also emphasized the need to connect Nepal's public service broadcasting with the new generation. He said that quality content should be produced on digital media used by the youth and their voices, ideas and creativity should be included in public broadcasting, he said.
