Kathmandu — The 'Ordinance on Special Arrangement for the Resignation of Public Officials, 2083' issued by President Ram Chandra Paudel on Saturday has created a vacuum in dozens of public agencies. With the amendment of 110 laws through the ordinance, more than 1,200 officials from various universities, institutions, academies, authorities, councils, funds, and commissions have been relieved of their duties at once.
The ordinance has made arrangements for the automatic resignation of officials appointed in various public agencies before 12 Chait, regardless of the terms, benefits, or remaining tenure of their appointment. 'Regardless of what is written in the prevailing law, public officials appointed in public agencies before 12 Chait 2082 and still in office, as per the schedule (110 laws), will be automatically relieved of their posts after the commencement of this ordinance, regardless of any terms, benefits, or tenure fixed for their appointment,' the ordinance states.
This decision, made by the government formed on 13 Chait after winning nearly two-thirds of the seats in the February 21 parliamentary election, is the largest so far in the field of public service. The appointments made by the government led by Sushila Karki, formed after the Janayuddha movement, have also been revoked by the ordinance.
