Permanent solution will be made for the landless: Prime Minister Shah

On Baisakh 21, Prime Minister Valendra Shah has informed that the government has moved forward with a systematic, transparent and sustainable solution by identifying the real situation of the landless citizens.

He wrote on social media on Monday, 'Arrangements will be made for safe and systematic relocation of citizens who are living in insecure places at risk of their lives. Based on the recommendations and collected details of the concerned commission, the Government of Nepal will make necessary decisions regarding the rights of other landless citizens.'

Regarding the management process being carried out by the Government of Nepal in accordance with the law in the areas where unauthorized encroachment has been clearly seen in the river banks and government-owned lands in the Kathmandu Valley, he has stated that the government has drawn attention to the various comments and explanations being made public.

Regarding the attempts to create anxiety among landless and disorganized housing citizens about whether this process will lead to displacement and to spread terror in a planned manner, Prime Minister Shah said that the government has taken the received information seriously.

Prime Minister Shah has also informed that some clauses of the Land Act 2021, which were acting as obstacles in the implementation of long-term solutions, have been repealed through an ordinance, considering the current situation, and with the removal of these legal obstacles, the work of collecting 'digital' details of real landless citizens, verifying descriptions and preparing records on a clear basis has been started.

He said, "The Government of Nepal wants to clarify that all the steps taken are not aimed at displacing citizens, but to find a permanent solution to the problem by ensuring the right to housing. Therefore, it is requested that all citizens do not fall into any kind of confusion, do not get unnecessarily excited and do not spread unverified information."

Also, in the message, Prime Minister Shah has made it clear that the government is fully committed to ensuring safe, dignified and permanent housing for every landless citizen, and that no citizen will be left homeless.
